The Walt Disney Co. will take precautionary measures for live shows in the wake of Adam Lambert's sexually charged American Music Awards performance on ABC, Reuters reports.

Artists will be contractually obligated to assure Disney, parent company of ABC, that their stage shows will resemble their rehearsals."We certainly don't want to suppress artistry at any level, but we also have to be very cognizant of who our audience is," Anne Sweeney, Disney/ABC Television Group president, told Reuters.

The change follows the American Idol runner-up's risqué number at the Nov. 22 awards show, during which he flipped off the audience, kissed a male keyboardist and fondled several of his backup dancers. Lambert also pulled the head of one dancer into his crotch. ABC fielded more than 1,500 complaints about the performance and later canceled the singer's Nov. 25 performance on Good Morning America — a right call, Sweeney said, because many children watch the morning news show.

"We really had to take the decision very seriously and found that his performance was very unpredictable at night and [we] didn't know what to expect in the morning," she said.
