Kevin Spacey Posts Bizarre Video as Frank Underwood Amid Sexual Assault Charge

Kevin Spacey seemingly addressed the sexual misconduct and assault allegations against him, while in character as a Frank Underwood, in a video released to his YouTube channel on Monday. The clip came mere moments after Cape and Islands, Mass. District Attorney Michael O'Keefe announced Spacey will face a charge of felony sexual assault, according to a report from The Boston Globe.

Spacey kicked off the bizarre, three-minute video by stating that he knows fans want him back after Frank was killed offscreen before the final season of Netflix's House of Cards. "Oh sure, they may have tried to separate us, but what we have is too strong, too powerful," Spacey said with Frank's familiar Southern accent. "After all, we shared everything, you and I. I told you my deepest, darkest secrets. I showed you exactly what people are capable of. I shocked you with my honesty, but mostly I challenged you and made you think. And you trusted me, even though you knew you shouldn't. So we're not done, no matter what anyone says. And besides, I know what you want. You want me back."

Spacey was fired from House of Cards in December 2017 after actor Anthony Rapp came forward with allegations that Spacey made sexual advances towards him when Rapp was 14 years old. After Rapp spoke out, others, including Richard Dreyfuss' son Harry Dreyfuss, accused the actor of sexual harassment or assault. Spacey is now facing a felony sexual assault charge for allegedly assaulting an 18-year-old male at a Nantucket club in July 2016. He will be arraigned on a charge of indecent assault and battery at Nantucket District Court on Jan. 7. Spacey is also under investigation in England and Los Angeles for other alleged sexual assaults.

The video is the first thing Spacey has posted on social media since he apologized to Rapp in October 2017, in a statement where the Oscar-winning actor also came out as gay.

Spacey didn't directly address Rapp or the other allegations in the video, but, in character as Frank, he did call claims against him "poppycock."

"Of course some believed everything and have just been waiting with bated breath to hear me confess it all," Spacey said. "They're just dying to have me declare that everything said is true, and that I got what I deserved. Wouldn't that be easy? If it was all so simple? Only you and I both know it's not that simple, not in politics and not in life. But you wouldn't believe the worst without evidence would you? You wouldn't rush to judgements without facts would you? Did you?"

Spacey went on to say that in life and art, nothing should be off the table before declaring: "I can promise you this. If I didn't pay the price for the things we both know I did do, I'm certainly not going to pay the price for the things I didn't do."

He also called House of Cards' ending "unsatisfying" before directly tackling his character's death. "My confidence grows each day that soon enough, you will know the full truth," he said. "Wait a minute, now that I think of it, you never actually saw me die, did you? Conclusions can be so deceiving."

Netflix declined to comment on Spacey's video, but the streaming service was not involved in its production.
