It's been more than a year since Grey's Anatomy fans mourned the loss of sexy plastic surgeon Dr. Mark Sloan. But the man who played him, Eric Dane, is very much alive — and back in production as the star of next summer's TNT series The Last Ship. Dane plays Navy Capt. Tom Chandler, who helps rescue humanity after an infectious disease kills most of the world's population.
His most arduous challenge in the premiere? "There's a scene where I try to start my ship by holding a busted fuse in place, knowing that a huge electrical current is going to surge through my body," says Dane, who shot most of his scenes in San Diego on an actual $4 billion naval destroyer. "I end up getting blown back 10 feet into a wall, but it made me feel pretty damn cool."
As intense as that sounds, what Dane's fan base really wants to know is when he'll be flashing some McSteamy-style skin. "I get very dirty," he says. "So I'm sure it's only a matter of time before I have to bathe."
