Kathryn Joosten's Lung Cancer Comes Back

Kathryn Joosten, who plays Wisteria Lane's cranky snoop Karen McCluskey on Desperate Housewives, is battling a recurrence of lung cancer.

Doctors found a spot on the 69-year-old Joosten's left lung during a recent physical. She was previously diagnosed with the disease in 2001, but went into remission after surgery, without having to have chemotherapy or radiation treatments. Joosten, who is also known for her role as the president's secretary on The West Wing, began smoking at 16, but quit after her first diagnosis."Well, I'm not the type of personality to take this lying down, and I'm not accepting it," Joosten told E! Online. She says her doctors are optimistic about her treatment.Joosten has won two guest-star Emmys for her role on Desperate Housewives. Producers said they are prepared to write around the actress' cancer treatments, but also haven't ruled out writing them into the show.
