They say the couple that plays together stays together. But husband and wife Jerry O'Connell and Rebecca Romijn love working together, too. On Monday, O'Connell guest stars as a rival PI of Romijn's Michelle Maxwell on King & Maxwell(10/9c, TNT). We interrogated him about the role.
TV Guide Magazine: What's it like working with your wife?
Jerry O'Connell: When she comes home from work, she tells me everything that happened on set. So I like to see what I've been hearing about. There was initially talk about me possibly playing her brother on King & Maxwell, but everybody thought it was a little too weird.
TV Guide Magazine: Instead, you're portraying a colleague.
O'Connell: Yes, but I get to accuse her character of wearing a wire as an excuse to pat her down. I totally got to feel her up. Other actors would have to ask, "Is it OK if I caress your inner thigh?" Whereas I was like, "It's gonna go down, just be ready." I loved it, because Rebecca's been out of town for so long, I need to get it from her wherever I can.
TV Guide Magazine: Did you bring your 4-year-old twins to the Vancouver set?
O'Connell: Yes! The girls get really excited. They like sitting in the chairs by Rebecca when she gets her hair done. The stylist put a little purple color in my daughter's hair, and she loved it. But they're not good on the actual set. You have to be quiet and not break things. I'm afraid they're going to burn the place down. They're insane! I don't think they're going to become child stars anytime soon.
TV Guide Magazine: So you wouldn't let either of them be a kid actor, as you were?
O'Connell: Are you crazy? I want some of that Olsen twin money!
TV Guide Magazine: You're 40th birthday is coming up in January. Do you have any big plans?
O'Connell: When it comes to birthdays my wife goes big. We celebrate for a week. There's fireworks involved. But I'm just the opposite. I want to go the rib place with only her and my two kids. I don't like to talk about birthdays. Luckily I have not had to really start coloring my hair, yet. I just sit on the couch and Rebecca colors it in with a magic marker!
