Jennifer Lawrence is close to receiving an offer to star as Katniss in the film adaptation of The Hunger Games, Variety reports.
Hunger Games, the first in Suzanne Collins' trilogy of young adult books, is set in a post-apocalyptic future where a young woman competes in a fight-to-the-death survival competition, broadcast across the globe. All three books are New York Times bestsellers.

Collins wrote the script with Billy Ray (State of Play). Seabiscuit's Gary Ross will direct.
Lawrence, 20, was nominated for an Academy Award for best actress for her performance in Winter's Bone. She will next be play Mystique in X-Men: First Class, which hits theaters June 3.
