AlthoughHeroeshas been canceled, creator/executive producer Tim Kring still sees a future for the show.

Fall 2010 TV Scorecard: Which shows are returning? Which aren't?

He thanked fans and NBC in a statement Tuesday, noting that the network afforded him "a rare opportunity to put a message of hope, interconnectivity and global consciousness into the world."

"For that I am grateful and look forward to finalizing our discussion about a number of ways to keep the Heroes universe alive for its fans."

NBC cancels once-mighty Heroes

The series was averaging fewer than 5 million viewers in its latest season, and Kring understands the network's decision behind the cancellation.

"For NBC, I certainly understand the challenge of creating a business model around a show which arrived precisely as the audience was finding new ways to watch traditional content on multiple screens," he said.
