Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin Separate After 11 Years of Marriage

Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin have separated after 11 years of marriage, the couple announced on Paltrow's GOOP website.

In a blog post titled "Conscious Uncoupling," the notoriously private duo wrote a heartfelt statement to the public. "It is with hearts full of sadness that we have decided to separate," the statement read. "We have been working hard for well over a year, some of it together, some of it separated, to see what might have been possible between us, and we have come to the conclusion that while we love each other very much we will remain separate."

Shocking celebrity breakups

Paltrow, 41, and Coldplay's Martin, 37, have been married since 2003 and have two children together, Apple and Moses.

"We are, however, and always will be a family, and in many ways we are closer than we have ever been," the statement continued. "We are parents first and foremost, to two incredibly wonderful children and we ask for their and our space and privacy to be respected at this difficult time. We have always conducted our relationship privately, and we hope that as we consciously uncouple and coparent, we will be able to continue in the same manner. Love, Gwyneth & Chris."

This was the first marriage for both Paltrow, who next appears on Tuesday's Glee, and Martin, whose band will release their sixth album, Ghost Stories, in May. It was also recently announced that Martin has joined The Voice as a key advisor and mentor.
