Five crazy moments that had our jaws on the floor

Buckle up, Grey's Anatomyfans! Thursday's penultimate episode before next week's Season 12 finale had more jaw-dropping moments than anyone could have predicted.

Jaw-dropping moment No. 1: Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Riggs (Martin Henderson) play tonsil hockey in the parking lot. We'll pause a moment to let you digest that image ... and the head-scratching reasoning that gets them to this point. Meredith's in a pissy mood because everyone around her is happy and Owen (Kevin McKidd) decided to sell Derek's trailer. Riggs gets where she's coming from, because he also lost someone close to him. (Hasn't everyone on this show though, really?) They yell at each other and then make out.

Jaw-dropping moment No. 2: Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) proposes to Owen! Early on in the episode, they have what should be a one-on-one discussion about marriage and kids and moving in together in an OR, in front of a wide-eyed Maggie (Kelly McCreary) and about half a dozen other people. They both say they'd get married again if they met the right person. Later, after Meredith goes into uber-bitch mode and chews Amelia out, saying that nothing in Amelia's life is rightfully "hers" (uh, OK, Mer), Amelia decides that she wants to have a real life with Owen. And they're not wasting any time, either: promos for next week indicate the episode takes place at their wedding.

Jaw-dropping moment No. 3: Penny (Samantha Sloyan) and Callie (Sara Ramirez) call it quits. The fallout from that Sofia custody storyline wrapped up pretty quickly - even though Arizona's (Jessica Capshaw) getting fed up with Callie's many requests to see Sofia outside of the schedule they agreed to. Callie has decided to stay in Seattle to be close to her daughter. Penny offers to postpone going to New York for her fellowship, but Callie doesn't want to prolong the inevitable, since she doesn't think a long-distance relationship will work, ever. She decides to rip the Band-Aid and breaks up with Penny, who tearfully packs her bags and prepares to head to New York immediately.

Jaw-dropping moment No. 4: Alex (Justin Chambers), inspired by Owen and Amelia's hypothetical wedding planning, proposes to Jo for a third time and demands an answer from her this time. Jo (Camilla Luddington) tells him she can't marry him, but we'll have to wait for next week for her explanation why.

Jaw-dropping moment No. 5: Well, maybe not jaw-dropping, but Kyle (Wilmer Valderrama) dies. Even after getting chewed out by his family, Stephanie (Jerrika Hinton) refuses to walk away from his case and tells Amelia the procedure she proposes is too risky. She's right! Sadly, Kyle and Stephanie share a moment right before he's brought down to surgery where they get back together, so to speak, and kiss. Kyle invites Stephanie to come on tour with him in Europe after he gets out of the hospital. (So obviously after that, you knew he was a goner.) R.I.P. Kyle. Will this prompt Stephanie to leave the hospital, and the show?

What did you think, Grey's fans? Are Owen and Amelia moving too fast? Why do you think Jo refuses to marry Alex? And what are your thoughts on Meredith and Riggs hooking up?

Grey's Anatomy airs Thursdays at 8/7c on ABC.
