The Flash Casts Wentworth Miller, Plots Arrow Crossovers

Comic book fans should be happy to hear that The CW's new adaptation of The Flashwill be faithful to what the characters they've come to know and love.

The Arrowspin-off tells the story of  Barry Allen (Grant Gustin), a scientist who, after a freak accident, gains the power of super speed and transforms into the Fastest Man Alive. Using his powers, Barry hopes to prove the innocence of his father, who was accused of murdering Barry's mother.

"It's probably the most faithful DC Comics adaptation ever," executive producer and DC Comics chief Geoff Johns told reporters at the Television Critics Association's fall previews on Friday. "We've incorporated almost everything of the mythology into it and added a new backstory with S.T.A.R. Labs."

With that being said, The Flash will quickly introduce Leonard Snart (Prison Break's Wentworth Miller), otherwise known as the villain Captain Cold. "We'll be seeing his origin [story] and the origin of the Rogues," executive producer Greg Berlanti said.

But Snart won't be the only familiar face popping up in Central City. As previously announced, The Tomorrow Peoplealum Robbie Amell has been cast as one half of Firestorm, and Berlanti announced that the other half, Martin Stein, will later be introduced. Also, the producers are aiming high up on the DC roster. "Between [Arrow and Flash], we'll have half the Justice League on our two shows this year," Berlanti says.

In the pilot episode, there's also a neat Easter Egg for Gorilla Grodd, a supervillain and nemesis of the Flash in the comics. Viewers will see a broken cage with a dangling nameplate that teases what could come in the future. Hopefully, "we can see exactly what jumped out of that cage," executive producer Andrew Kreisberg says.

As for how much The Flash will cross over with flagship series Arrow, Kreisberg told TVGuide.com after the panel that it'll happen often on a small scale, but they are planning for a big event later in the season. "Episodes 8 of both shows, Arrow and Flash, are going to be a two-hour crossover event," Kreisberg says. "[Also], in Episode 4, Felicity [Emily Bett Rickards] is going to come to The Flash."

The Flash premieres Tuesday, Oct. 7 at 8/7c on The CW.
