ESPN Cans Curt Schilling After Transphobic Facebook Post

ESPN has cut ties with analyst and former Major League Baseball pitcher Curt Schilling after he posted a transphobic meme on his Facebook page, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

"ESPN is an inclusive company," the network said in a statement on Wednesday. "Curt Schilling has been advised that his conduct was unacceptable and his employment with ESPN has been terminated."

Earlier this week, Schilling posted an anti-transgender meme to his Facebook post commenting on recent controversial legislation in states including North Carolina requiring transgender people to use bathrooms according to the identity the were assigned at birth. The 49-year-old has since deleted the post, but Outsports reposted it on its Twitter account.

Schilling wrote a blog entry claiming that he didn't post the meme saying, "I didn't post that ugly-looking picture. I made a comment about the basic functionality of men's and women's restrooms, period."

This isn't the first time Schilling has been in trouble with ESPN over controversial remarks on his social media accounts. He was suspended from the network's baseball coverage for the 2015 regular season and wild-card playoff game for a tweet that compared Muslims and Nazis.
