Ellen Pompeo is stepping behind the camera.

The Grey's Anatomystar is developing an adaptation of Rachel Carey's novel Debt for ABC Family, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Grey's Anatomy's Shonda Rhimes teases half-sister twist, possible new romance

A satire of the 2008 financial meltdown in New York, Debt follows Lillian Fitzgerald, who takes an SAT tutoring position to help chip away at her $100,000 in student loan debt and discovers that pretty much everyone is in someone else's debt.

Pompeo will executive-produce the drama, which does not yet have a writer.
