David Cook to Sing Idol Goodbye Song

What do you get when you cross David Cook and Simple Minds? This season's American Idol goodbye song.
The Season 7 champ has recorded a cover of the band's classic song — and The Breakfast Club theme — "Don't You (Forget About Me)" for the Fox hit to play over the departing hopefuls' montage reels, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Idol creator and executive producer Simon Fuller chose the tune after Cook recorded it last month.

Cook's version will make its Idol debut next week, but fans who pre-order his upcoming second album can get a first listen Thursday on his official website. The song will be available on iTunes and other digital retailers starting Tuesday.
Cook is the fourth Idol alum to contribute an exit song, following Ruben Studdard ("Celebrate Me Home"), Daughtry ("Home") and Carrie Underwood, who covered Mötley Crüe's "Home Sweet Home" two seasons ago.
