The CW Cancels Hart of Dixie, The Messengers

After weeks of speculation, it's official: The CW has canceled its dramedy Hart of Dixieafter four seasons, TVGuide.com has confirmed. In addition, the network will not be ordering a second season of freshman drama The Messengers.

Hart of Dixie, which starred Rachel Bilson as a New York City doctor who moves to a small town in Alabama to take over a medical practice, never cracked 2 million viewers and dipped to averaged fewer than 1.5 million viewers in its most recent season.

Creator Leila Gerstein had hinted that the end was nigh for the show last month, thanking fans for their support on Twitter and adding the hashtag #longlivethehart.

The Messengers premiered last month and airs Fridays at 9/8c. The CW will announce its full fall lineup next week.
