Cheers & Jeers: The Good Wife's Great Guests

This week's stellar episode, "Real Deal," marked the return ofguaranteed Emmy nominee Michael J. Fox as Louis Canning, a canny lawyer who exploits his own disability to win sympathy. His encore was subtler and more intriguing, as his motivation for competing (then unwillingly collaborating) with Lockhart Gardner on a class-action lawsuit wasn't clear. Was he still a corporate shill or had he suddenly grown a heart? The resolution was refreshingly nuanced for a network drama—and left the door open for Fox to come back.
But the former Alex P. Keaton was just the biggest name in a long list of gifted actors who graced the hour, from rapper Method Man (as an ex-con hip-hopper brought in to boost the Florrick campaign's youth appeal) to True Blood vampire king Denis O'Hare (wittily cast as a judge obsessed with donating blood). O'Hare is also a Tony-winning stage star, and the episode featured a pair of recent Tony nominees, Christopher Sieber (Shrek) as a misguided music teacher coopted by Eli Gold (Alan Cumming—another Tony winner!) and Zach Grenier (33 Variations), as a partner working to oust freshly revealed mole Derrick Bond (the always-mesmerizing Michael Ealy).
Ealy's pulling a double shift now, wooing Natasha McElhone on Californication, and The Good Wife will soon welcome another moonlighter (and former Tony nominee!), Lights Out's Pablo Schreiber, in a potentially recurring role as an lawyer. All these actors are, in fact, the Real Deal. Now if they'd just lose Elizabeth Reaser as Will's irksome girlfriend...
