Birdman, Boyhood Win Big at Independent Spirit Awards

The stage is set for a showdown between Birdmanand Boyhoodat Sunday's Academy Awards.

At the Film Independent Spirit Awards Saturday night, Birdman won Best Feature and star Michael Keaton took home the trophy for Best Male Lead, but Boyhood's Richard Linklater was named Best Director.

Birdman and Boyhood are neck and neck in the Best Picture and Best Director categories heading into the Oscars Sunday night. Birdman led the way with three wins at the Independent Spirit Awards (including Best Cinematography).

Julianne Moore, considered a shoo-in for the Best Actress Oscar, also picked up another trophy at the Independent Spirit Awards for her role as a professor diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's in Still Alice. Supporting Actor and Actress frontrunners J.K. Simmons (Whiplash) and Patricia Arquette (Boyhood) also won in those categories Saturday night.

Selmawas nominated for five Independent Spirit Awards, including Best Feature, but went home empty-handed.

Nightcrawler won two prizes, for Best First Feature and Best Screenplay.
