Billy Joel tells the Long Island newspaper Newsday that his daughter will recover from an overdose of pills, though he's deeply shaken.

Joel says Alexa Ray Joel — his only daughter with supermodel Christie Brinkley — never was in any danger because she got to a hospital quickly from her Greenwich Village apartment.

Alexa Ray Joel hospitalized, in "stable" condition

The 23-year-old Alexa was rushed to nearby St. Vincent's Medical Center after a friend frantically called 911 from her apartment saying Joel had taken several pills, a law-enforcement official told The Associated Press.

Joel, who has followed in her father's footsteps as a singer-songwriter-pianist, was hospitalized in stable condition and received treatment.
