The Cast of A.P. Bio Reminisces on Their Favorite Teachers IRL

Shoutout to Mrs. Cadwallader

NBC's new high school-set sitcom A.P. Bio features a set of teachers and administrators who are less Mr. Feeney from Boy Meets World and more Mr. Garrison from South Park. They're not inspiring the hearts and minds of America's youth; they're hanging out in the teachers' lounge and dreaming up new ways they can make their students do chores for them.

The cast told TV Guide that while they didn't have any teachers quite as bad as the characters they play, they did have some memorable ones -- except Glenn Howerton, who stars as failed Harvard philosophy professor-turned-disinterested science teacher Jack Griffin. He doesn't really remember any of them.

"My teachers were like the teachers in Peanuts," he said, imitating that famous waa-waa-waa trombone noise.

But Patton Oswalt, who plays Principal Durbin, is a lifelong nerd who still keeps in touch with his AP History teacher Ron Richards. "That was my guy," he says. "I still email him all the time."

Lyric Lewis, who plays history teacher Stef, had a borderline inappropriate relationship with an administrator at her high school, whose preoccupation with his failing marriage made him overly permissive about allowing students to cut class. And Jean Villepique, who plays math teacher Michelle, had a biology teacher named Mrs. Cadwallader who had her students dissect squids and then make calamari with the carcasses the next day, which is weird but thrifty!

But if you want to see teacher weirdness turned up to 11, check out A.P. Bio, which premieres with a special preview airing Thursday, Feb 1 at 9:30/8:30c. Following the debut, the first three episodes will be available for streaming on the NBC App and Hulu. A.P. Bio will move to its regular timeslot on Thursday, Mar. 1 at 9:30/8:30c.
