Oscar-winning director Ang Lee will make his television directorial debut with the FX pilot Tyrant, the network announced Wednesday. It will be Lee's first project since Life of Pi, for which he won the Best Director Academy Award last month.
Tyrant, which tells the story of an unassuming American family that is drawn into the workings of a turbulent Middle Eastern nation, comes from Homeland producers Howard Gordon and Gideon Raff and writer/producer Craig Wright (Six Feet Under, Lost). Lee will also act as an executive producer alongside Gordon, Raff and Wright, who will serve as showrunner if the pilot is ordered to series.
Production on the pilot is scheduled to begin this summer.
