Thomas Gibson was prepared for the worst. The Criminal Minds star makes his series directorial debut with Wednesday's episode and had a way easier first day than he expected.
"I was hoping for some of [the actors] to give me a hard time, but no one did!" he tells TVGuide.com. "But [joking aside], everyone was great and extremely supportive of me, which certainly made the whole experience even better."

Wednesday's Criminal Minds is the fourth episode Matthew Gray Gubler has directed — and the episode itself might not have even been made if he hadn't directed his first three.
"The whole impetus behind this story is very bizarre and when the network heard that I was directing this one and they knew that the last one I did was slightly strange and worked, they gave us the go-ahead," Gubler, who plays Reid, tells TVGuide.com. "I didn't really think about that until now!" she tells TVGuide.com. "But I guess it's true. We've got a good mystery with Reid's girlfriend and a scary mystery with the season-long unsub. We didn't really plan for it this way, but they both just sort of worked out for this season."
