Michael Phelps is looking to make a bigger splash on TV than he did at the Water Cube.If appearing on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and hosting the season premiere of Saturday Night Live isn't enough Phelps for you, the swimmer has been tapped to present at the MTV Video Music Awards, The Associated Press reports.The eight-time Beijing gold medalist is among the latest stars announced as VMA presenters, including Miley Cyrus, Ciara, Lindsay Lohan and Scarlett Johansson. The Los Angeles-based ceremony takes place Sept. 7, a day before Phelps, 23, is scheduled to appear on The Tonight Show. Then it's off to New York for SNL rehearsals to prepare for the show's 34th season premiere on Sept. 13. More acts are lining up to rock the MTV Video Music Awards.Rihanna, Paramore, Pink and T.I. have been added to the roster of VMA performers, The Associated Press reports.They join the already-announced Kid Rock, Lil' Wayne and the Jonas Brothers.Rihanna, whose "Take a Bow" is up for Best Female Video, will perform her No. 1 summer hit "Disturbia," while Best Rock Video nominee Paramore will belt out "Misery Business." Pink, a past VMA winner, will entertain the crowd with "So What," the first single off her upcoming album Funhouse.No word on what T.I., who's up for Best Male Video, will perform, but his presence will be significant for another reason. It will be his first award show appearance since his arrest at last year's BET Hip-Hop Awards for trying to purchase machine guns and silencers. MTV has released the much-hyped promotional spots from this year's Video Music Awards host, Russell Brand, and Britney Spears — and they should assuage any lingering doubts about Brit's connection to reality. As previously reported, the ads feature Brand and Spears sitting in front of an elephant, whose presence in the proverbial room is a nod to the pop star's performance debacle at the 2007 awards.
