Premise: A wry Emmy-winning look at Manhattan's dating scene that was more about female friendship than sex, though there was plenty of that. It revolved around relationship columnist Carrie; sex-crazed Samantha; stolid lawyer Miranda; and marriage-hungry Charlotte. Based on Candace Bushnell's book, it was appointment TV especially for female viewers, who were taken with the clothes, the beaus and, most of all, the solidarity of its four lead women, whose disparate personalities were brilliantly etched.
