On the Set Farewell to Chuck Part 4: The Nerd Legacy

After five seasons of Chuck peppered with Subway sandwich campaigns and eleventh-hour renewals, it's clear that the spy series owes much of its life to its passionate fan base.

"It's funny being on this show because it's such an -- I don't know if the word is 'honor' — to be a part of a show where the fans were so behind it because it's so mysterious," actor Vik Sahay told reporters at the set visit for Chuck's two-hour series finale (Friday, 8/7c, NBC). "It's so elusive how things connect with fans because you can kind of take all of the pieces of why it should and put them together and it often doesn't. So that kind of alchemy between the show and the fans is stunning. It's what's allowed the producers to create the show that they created. It's something that I've never experienced before, and it's so moving, and I don't know if I'll ever get a chance to experience that kind of back and forth again."

The Bones Spin-Off: Will the Show's Fans Like "Finder"?

Make no bones about it: Bones creator Hart Hanson is more than a little nervous about how his show's loyal (and very vocal) audience will receive the characters from his proposed spin-off when they make their debut in Thursday's episode, which is titled "Finder."

"I have warned them about this from the beginning. I said... 'Now, listen — when this goes on the air, there's going to be a loud group of people who hate [these characters]," Hanson tells TVGuide.com with a squealing laugh. "Our record of introducing new characters on Bones — it doesn't go well.

"I expect that there will be a loud group of people who say, 'Hey! What's this peanut butter doing with my chocolate?'" Hanson continues. "The question will be: Do people tune out? It'll be very interesting to see how the quiet majority of Bones fans respond to "Finder" as opposed to the very loud passionate minority. Which I love, but it's sometimes like riding a tiger."

Premise: CBS reworked its successful `Hawaii Five-O' formula into a hit spun around a charismatic PI. The scenic backdrop and action-oriented drama were similar, and the initial time slots were identical. Often, reference was even made to Steve McGarrett of `Five-O.' Magnum, however, was a lot more vulnerable and sensitive than McGarrett, traits more in tune with the times that helped contribute to the Emmy-winning Selleck's enormous appeal.
