Premise: A delightful six-hour adaptation of Jane Austen's 1813 masterpiece about a young woman's rocky romance with a haughty gentleman. Superb performances by Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle highlighted this lush BBC/A&E coproduction. While Firth won many a heart (including, later, that of a diary-writing single named `Bridget Jones') as the handsome but aloof Mr. Darcy, Jennifer Ehle received the BAFTA TV award (the British equivalent of an Emmy) for her portrayal of vivacious heroine Elizabeth Bennet.
