  • Network Upfronts Day 2: Surviving With the CW | The Biz | 5/14/2008 New
In one of those last-minute instances that occur in a network scheduling session, someone at the CW decided to change the title from one of its new series from How To Teach Filthy Rich Girls to Surviving the Filthy Rich. Perhaps the CW has survival on its mind. As the struggling network served drinks before unveiling its new schedule to advertisers on Tuesday (thank you!), industry types were wondering out loud if the CW would be around a year from now. That being said, the network appears to be going into 2008-09 a bit leaner and more focused. The new version of 90210 looks like "Gossip Girl West." Surviving Filthy Rich takes the decadent teen milieu to Palm Beach, Florida. One Tree Hill lives on. The marketing campaign theme could be: Horny Teens Welcome Here. We kid. When you include America’s Next Top Model and the new Stylista (a reality competition where young people compete for a job at Elle magazine and be subjected to Devil Wears Prada-type abuse), CW will have a... read more

  • Fall TV: 90210 Anchors CW's All-New Tuesday | Today's News: Our Take | 5/13/2008 New
The CW is the latest network to spill their fall slate, and two nights — Monday (Gossip Tree Hill) and Thursday (Smallnatural) — remain unchanged.Tuesday will offer some "zip" in the form of 90210, the BH follow-up featuring an occasional drop-by from "guidance counselor" Jennie Garth. Leading out of that is Surviving the Filthy Rich (fka How to Teach Filthy Rich Girls, and starring Reba's JoAnna Garcia).Wednesday, as usual, kicks off with Top Model, now followed by Stylista, a Devil Wears Prada-esque reality series from Tyra Banks. Everybody Hates Chris and The Game, having lost their Sunday-night home, have been moved to Friday.Speaking of CW's Sunday... that's "TBA." Media Rights Capital, the firm network "outsourced" the evening to, will announce its offerings (two dramas and two comedies) at a later date. Reaper will return midseason. — MWM read more
  • Fall TV: CW's Game for The Game, Tyra Banks' Stylista | Today's News: Our Take | 5/12/2008 New
The pre-upfronts pickups continue. The CW has greenlit a third season of The Game, which forges on despite the months-ago dismissal of its forerunner, Girlfriends. The CW also has picked up to series Stylista, a Devil Wears Prada-esque reality competition produced by Top Model tandem Tyra Banks and Ken Mok, and dangling a job at Elle in front of 11 wannabe fashion journos. Stylista likely will be packaged with ANTM on Wednesday nights. — MWMMore Fall TV coverage:• Ausiello's "Bubble" Show Status Report• More Boston Legal Suits ABC• CW Officially Picks Up 90210 • Fox's Death Lives On, Back to You Won't Be Back• Fox's New Amsterdam Immortal No More • CW Axes Aliens in America read more
  • The CW "Outsources" Its Sunday-night Block; Two Dramas, Two Comedies Coming | Today's News: Our Take | 5/9/2008
The CW has signed a deal with the production finance company Media Rights Capital to take over its Sunday-night programming block, where Everybody Hates Chris, Aliens in America and The Game currently reside. As part of the pact, MRC is contracted to develop two dramas and two comedies, and sell ad time for them. The CW (and the WB before it) traditionally has had a very rough go of it trying to gain traction with Sunday programming/ratings. It is believed that by pawning off the quagmire to a media conglomerate, the netlet can focus its attention on Monday through Friday — where, ostensibly, EHC and/or The Game could find new homes. (Per Ausiello, Aliens is a goner.) — MWMRelated:• The CW Axes Aliens in America• No Laughing Matter: CW Closes Comedy Division read more
