A cheerleader is chosen to battle the forces of evil as she weathers the storms of young adulthood in an imaginative series that blends killer writing and performances. The show put WB on the ratings map and spawned the successful `Angel' before moving to UPN in 2001. Series creator Joss Whedon introduced the character in a 1992 film that had Kristy Swanson in the Slayer role.
  • Exclusive: First Look at Joss Whedon's "Dr. Horrible" | Roush Dispatch | 6/30/2008
Two of my favorite things in all of show business— musical comedy and Joss Whedon — combine in the funniest, freshest TV special of the summer, which happens to be available only on your computer starting in mid-July.I had the great good fortune late last week to get a sneak peek at all 42 minutes of Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, Whedon's stylishly scrappy, lovably cheesy and insanely tuneful return to the form for which he showed such incredible aptitude in the classic "Once More, With Feeling" episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.Dr. Horrible, written during the writers' strike and filmed in six days this spring "on favors and waivers" by a crew of longtime Whedon loyalists, will be streamed for free in what Whedon cheerfully calls an "Internet miniseries event" on the show's official website (www.drhorrible.com) in three chapters. Part 1 will be available Tuesday, July 15, with the following segments (each roughly 14 minutes) available July 17 and 19. All three... read more
  • Inside Battlestar Producer Jane Espenson's Frakkin' Amazing Job | TV Guide Interviews & Features | 4/4/2008
Jane Espenson is one of the busiest and seemingly happiest writers around Hollywood these days. Not only does her résumé include incredible shows like Buffy, Angel, Firefly, Gilmore Girls, Jake in Progress and Andy Barker, P.I., but she's now working as co-executive producer on Sci Fi Channel's Peabody Award-winning hit show, Battlestar Galactica. TVGuide.com sat down with Espenson at her Universal Studios writing office to talk about working on one of the best shows on television, which TV ... read more
  • Ask Matt | 3/28/2008
Q: I agree completely with you and letter writer Katelyn about the worst of promo gimmicks being the teaser of a character's death. However, your discussion of the heartbreaking death of Jenny Calendar on Buffy the Vampire Slayer indicates that you both missed the WB promo for that episode. It revealed that "one of Buffy's friends will die!" (I'm unsure of the exact wording). Unfortunately, I didn't miss that promo, and deduced that Jenny would be the victim (Joss Whedon hadn't yet killed an ... read more
  • Exclusive: Buffy Alums Circling Whedon's Dollhouse | Ausiello Report | 3/24/2008
Eliza Dushku may be bunking with some old friends when she moves into Joss Whedon's Dollhouse next season. According to multiple sources, several Buffyverse grads are being considered for the eight supporting roles now being cast.Whedon confirmed this unbelievably fraktacular turn of events moments before taking the stage at Paley Fest's Buffy tribute last Thursday. "I've read a couple of people [from the Buffyverse]," he told me, "but I'm not going to say who."Although this would seem to contradict comments the Buffy master made to me last fall, in which he said that his "first instinct is to probably [cast] new people because I'm already reuniting with Eliza and I don't want it to seem like a house party," Whedon insists his position hasn't changed. "It's not a hard and fast rule," clarifies the auteur, who just completed penning Dollhouse's one-hour premiere. "I just want to make sure I get the right people. And I don't want to give the impression that it's just me and my... read more
