Simon meets Amber, a mature female cheetah, and her family of three fully-grown cubs. At 16 months old, the cubs still have a lot to learn. The two males attack every passing target, including an adult wildebeest and a giraffe.They finally manage to kill a small warthog. But a passing lioness turns up and chases them off the kill. Foolishly, they hang around and the lioness turns her attention on them.

Amber the cheetah's cubs seem ready to leave their mother as they succeed in catching an adult impala. But then Simon discovers that they are not as advanced as they seem. First, they kill a topi calf but, in doing so, attract the anger of the adults, then they take on a troop of baboons and are forced to beat a hurried retreat.

Jonathon Scott is delighted to discover that Halftail the leopard has survived the attack by two lionesses and that she may be a mother again. He also spots Halftail's daughter, Shadow, who catches a hare but, in doing so, attracts a hyena. However, she has the advantage of being able to take her kill straight into a tree away from such predators.

Simon King gets excited when he hears four cheetahs have been spotted. However, he is disappointed when he discovers they are not Amber and her family, but a mating party - three males vying for the attention of a female. Four days later, Amber literally catches up with Simon - on his jeep! She and her cubs, though, soon turn serious in pursuit of supper. Unfortunately, although they catch a wildebeest, they are unable to subdue it and it finally gets away.
