In one of those last-minute instances that occur in a network scheduling session, someone at the CW decided to change the title from one of its new series from How To Teach Filthy Rich Girls to Surviving the Filthy Rich. Perhaps the CW has survival on its mind. As the struggling network served drinks before unveiling its new schedule to advertisers on Tuesday (thank you!), industry types were wondering out loud if the CW would be around a year from now.That being said, the network appears to be going into 2008-09 a bit leaner and more focused. The new version of 90210 looks like "Gossip Girl West." Surviving Filthy Rich takes the decadent teen milieu to Palm Beach, Florida. One Tree Hill lives on. Thanks to Spitzer, Diane Sawyer's Shelved Piece on Pros Scores a Date | Today's News: Our Take | 3/17/2008
A never-aired, two-year-old ABC News special examining Nevada's legal brothels will finally see the light of day, thanks to the Eliot Spitzer scandal and the attention it has drawn to prostitution rings. According to the New York Daily News, the Diane Sawyer-led undercover investigative piece was pegged to the famous Moonlite Bunny Ranch, but also interviewed high-priced Manhattan call girls (à la "Kristen"). Amid charges of base pandering, the project lived in limbo. But now, in light of the headlines surrounding the former New York governor, the special has been given a go, and will air this Friday on 20/20. read more
Studio 60, Ugly Betty, the Big Ten and More Short Cuts | Today's News: Our Take | 9/7/2007
Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip arrives on DVD Oct. 16 in a six-disc, 22-episode set.... Tonight's the night that ABC's 20/20 sticks its nose in Dateline: To Catch a Predator's business. The sucker punches start at 10 pm/ET.... Marlo Thomas will guest on Ugly Betty this fall as a jewelry company owner with a "thing" for younger men — namely, Daniel.... ABC Family's Lincoln Heights set a series high with its Tuesday Season 2 premiere, drawing 1.6 million total viewers. That's a 14 percent increase over the show's January launch.... EchoStar's Dish Network has agreed to host the Big Ten Network, and just in time for this weekend's college football games, says TV Week. read more

Hot off an Esquire article as well as a lawsuit positing that NBC's Chris Hansen-hosted Dateline: To Catch a Predator series went above and beyond the call of journalism in the name of exposing Louis Conradt, a former Murphy, Texas, DA who took his own life as a camera-toting policeman breached his home, ABC's own newsmagazine is getting in on the action. In a rare instance of a program acknowledging the existence of a rival, 20/20 is working on a story about To Catch a Predator's four-day sting operation, to determine whether Conradt was the victim of questionable or compromised law-enforcement tactics. read more
i-Caught Gets the Story Behind Viral Videos | The Biz | 8/2/2007
Back in 1990 when video cameras hit critical mass among consumers, ABC launched America's Funniest Home Videos, making every embarrassing moment that occurred in front of a camcorder fodder for entertainment. It's still on the air. Now ABC News is exploiting the newest generation of video technology with a limited summer series called i-Caught, which premieres Tuesday, Aug. 7, at 10 pm. Each week, host Bill Weir will be getting the story behind the most talked-about user-generated clips on the Internet that go into heavy rotation on cable news after they've sufficiently distracted the nation's labor force. ABC has even set up a YouTube-esque site at http://ugv.abcnews.go.com where you can sample some clips and even upload your own.
