Anthony Geary, General Hospital
It's easy to grouse about the annual Daytime Emmy nominations: "One Life to Live's Robin Strasser was robbed! Why is Passions treated like the stepchild of soaps? And who voted for that so-so star(let)?" But nobody could object to the outstanding-lead-actor nod for General Hospital's talented Anthony Geary. In this exclusive interview, TVGuide.com asks the most recognizable man in daytime TV about Emmy, the return of Holly and Robert Scorpio, and those endless Genie Francis rumors.

TVGuide.com: Congrats on your eighth Emmy nom! You've won four times. Are you still surprised at this point?
Anthony Geary:
Thank you. I'm always surprised.

TVGuide.com: What did you submit for your prenomination reel?
Geary:
I used the day that Luke unplugged Lucky from the life-support machine. And now I have to choose a second show because when you're nominated, [you submit] two full shows [for the Emmy voters' consideration]. I believe I will also choose something from that sequence because it seems to be powerful — and it got me this far. I think there are a couple of other really good shows in there that I feel represent my work, [like those] with Lucky being on life support and Luke facing the need to unplug him and let him go.

TVGuide.com: Let's talk about Lucky's mom. There are always rumors of Genie's possible return. Would you like to see Laura back, or have you and GH moved on?
Geary:
Luke can never move on from Laura. He does what he can to survive, but Genie and I have been linked as characters — "Luke and Laura" — from the beginning. I would naturally love to see her come back. It's between Genie and the powers that be, and I'm not in that circle. But I'd enjoy it, especially now that we're recapturing some of the old A-group from the glory days. It would be nice to have her [on the show] as well.

TVGuide.com: You must be thrilled to have Emma Samms and Tristan Rogers back.
Geary:
I love it. We come to that party with so much history. There's a different group of writers now than were writing for us before, so we can contribute a lot to the scenes from our relationships.

TVGuide.com: Will Luke's romance with Holly be reawakened?
Geary:
There is a spark of it, but mostly it's between Holly and Robert. They were married, but the history is, Holly was carrying Luke's child before Laura. Luke was looking forward to marrying Holly; he was in love with her. But he was hit by an avalanche and spent nine months in a mountain cabin regaining the will to live. He was paraplegic and he was too proud to come back to town until he could walk. When he finally did come back to town, Holly had miscarried his child and was married to Robert. So all of those historical pieces of information feed us and inform us when we work together. Even if it's not referred to directly in the script, we can look at each other and we know all these things. It's like life!
