When Daytime Emmy nominations...
When Daytime Emmy nominations were announced Wednesday on
The View, the CBS sudsers led the pack with 29 nominations to ABC's 12 in the major soap-opera categories. After an annus horribilis of budget slashing and cast cuts, there was finally good news for
Guiding Light: TV's longest-running serial — which just turned 69 — will vie for best soap honors with
As the World Turns,
General Hospital and
Young and the Restless.
GL also scored the most acting nods, with a total of nine!
Speaking of suds thesps, many of the usual suspects were nominated, including
Bold and Beautiful matriarch
Susan Flannery,
GH tough guys
Maurice Benard and
Anthony Geary, and
GL diva
Kim Zimmer. But Emmy also honored some newbies, such as
One Life to Live's
Renee Goldsberry, whose recognition was long overdue.
SoapNet also deserves a shout-out for
Soap Talk's
Lisa Rinna and
Ty Treadway snagging an outstanding-talk-show-host nod, as well as that outstanding-special nod for
SoapNet Reveals ABC Soap Secrets, produced by my pal
Matthew Wright.
Sadly, NBC's
Days of our Lives and
Passions were dissed again in the major categories, except for
Days' outstanding-directing nod.
