The story of Hernández v. Texas, a landmark 1954 Supreme Court case that, in a unanimous ruling, declared that Mexican Americans were protected under the 14th Amendment. The episode details the history of Mexican Americans, the unequal treatment afforded them and the murder case that became the basis of Hernández v. Texas; and features remarks from attorney Carlos Cadena, who was part of the team that argued the case, and law professor Ian Haney-López (UC Berkeley).
