Amazon has signed Woody Allen to create his first-ever television series, the studio announced Tuesday.

Allen will write and direct a half-hour series, which is currently untitled, that will be made available on Amazon Prime Instant Video next year.

"Woody Allen is a visionary creator who has made some of the greatest films of all-time, and it's an honor to be working with him on his first television series," Roy Price, vice president of Amazon Studios, said in a statement. "From Annie Hall to Blue Jasmine, Woody has been at the creative forefront of American cinema and we couldn't be more excited to premiere his first TV series exclusively on Prime Instant Video next year."

Golden Globes fashion hits and misses

The news comes two days after Amazon won its first two Golden Globes, with Transparent claiming best comedy series and Jeffrey Tambor being named best actor in a comedy series.

"I don't know how I got into this," Allen added in a statement. "I have no ideas and I'm not sure where to begin. My guess is that Roy Price will regret this."

Allen's next feature film, a currently untitled project with Joaquin Phoenix and Emma Stone, is scheduled for release this year.

The director most recently made headlines after his adopted daughter Dylan Farrow wrote an open letter in the New York Times last February accusing Allen of sexually abusing her, which he later vehemently denied.
