Women's groups are calling on CBS to ditch plans to air a commercial featuring college football star Tim Tebow and his mother, according to The Associated Press.

The spot will recount the story of Pam Tebow's pregnancy in 1987, when she says doctors urged her to abort her child because she became sick during a mission trip to the Phillippines. She ignored their recommendations and gave birth to Tim.

The message is meant to convey the celebration of family and life, but some critics believe it will carries an anti-abortion message, the AP reported.

"I know some people won't agree with it," said Tebow, a Heisman Trophy winner who quarterbacked Florida to two national championships. "But I think they can at least respect that I stand up for what I believe."

Ratings: Super Bowl XLIII scores second-largest audience ever

"An ad that uses sports to divide rather than to unite has no place in the biggest national sports event of the year — an event designed to bring Americans together," Jehmu Greene, president of the New York-based Women's Media Center, told the AP.

CBS said it approved the script and, despite the protests from the women's groups, will still likely air the spot during the Super Bowl.
