Marvel Is Working on the Winter Soldier and Falcon Show You've Always Wanted

But would it be a buddy comedy?

You cannot stop Marvel from Marvel-ing. And sometimes we don't want to. According to Variety, Marvel is currently developing a limited series centered on the Winter Soldier and Falcon, characters played on the big screen by Sebastian Stan and Anthony Mackie, respectively. The potential series, which would air on the upcoming Disney streaming service (naturally), is being written by Malcolm Spellman. His credits include writing and co-executive-producing Fox's Empire.

The news comes after reports that Marvel and Disney were developing multiple limited series centered on MCU characters who had yet to appear in their own standalone films. At the time, Loki (Tom Hiddleston) and Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) were named as characters potentially getting the limited series treatment.

Both Winter Soldier/Bucky Barnes and Falcon/Sam Wilson have appeared in multiple Marvel films to date, and although neither is played by a man named Chris, they are still beloved by the Marvel audience, especially after the events of Captain America: Civil War. I mean, we all remember this scene, right?

And this one?

Honestly, the possibility that we might be getting more of these two together outside the major Marvel films is exciting news. And now that Lethal Weaponhas basically imploded, TV could definitely use another buddy comedy. If, you know, Marvel is currently looking for ideas. But if Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) does actually die in the upcoming Avengers film like many fans suspect he will, this project has the potential to take on a more serious tone.

What else is unclear right now is if Stan and Mackie would be reprising their roles for the limited series. When news of Marvel and Disney's plans to develop these series first broke in September, it was reported the original actors would return, but this new report makes no mention of it. It would be a shame if someone else were to step into these roles simply for a TV series. After all, Stan is no stranger to TV (shout out to Political Animals and Kings!), and Mackie is slated to star in the second season of Netflix's Altered Carbon, so jumping into a new limited series would be easy enough -- if their film schedule allows it.
