Steve Martin has been named host of the 73rd annual Academy Awards, to be telecast live March 25 on ABC. The comic-actor was tapped after Billy Crystal, citing time constraints, backed out. "[Steve's] everything," commented Oscar producer Gil Cates. "He's a movie star, he's funny, he's classy, he's literate — he'll be a wonderful host." Martin, who has never been nominated for an Oscar, joked, "If you can't win 'em, join 'em."
