Ian Somerhalder is trading in his fangs for spectacles in his new vampire series, V-Wars, coming to Netflix on Dec. 5. And now that we officially have a premiere date, we can hardly wait for this new character and the crazy world he lives in to make their debut.

In the show, Somerhalder plays Dr. Luther Swann, a doctor whose best friend, Michael Fayne (Adrian Holmes), is turned into a vampire by a mysterious disease. When said disease begins to spread, society grows more and more divided, with humans on one side of the divide and vampires on the other. While Fayne rises in the ranks of vampire leadership, Swann stays committed to researching the vampire virus.

"It's more about the science instead of supernatural fantasy," Somerhalder previously told TV Guide. "These creatures come as a result of a disease. They're not 165 years old; it's happening brand new, in real-time. You're experiencing it as it's happening. What that does to the world is going to be insane."

The Vampire Diaries Stars Look Back at Filming the Pilot for the Show's 10th Anniversary

Along with the premiere date, Netflix also shared four new images of the upcoming series, and in them, Somerhalder's Dr. Swann is definitely rocking the nerdy-hot vibe. Dare we say he has more smolder than The Vampire Diaries' Damon Salvatore? Holmes' Michael Fayne, however, looks scary AF! These are not the sexy vampires we're used to; these look like straight-up monsters right out of our worst nightmares.

V-Wars' 10-episode season debuts Thursday, Dec. 5 on Netflix.
