American Idol Season 7 finalist Michael Johns, who passed away suddenly on Friday from a blood clot in his ankle, was a fan favorite when he competed on the show — even after his elimination.
Johns, an Australian singer-songwriter, made it all the way to the Top 8 before he was shockingly eliminated. Along the way, he put his own spin on classic rock hits including The Doors' "Light My Fire," The Beatles' "Across the Universe," and Aerosmith's "Dream On."

After his ouster, Johns spoke with TVGuide.com about his run on Idoland how surprised he was to have been voted off.
"I was so bummed and shocked that night, and I woke up the next morning depressed, and got to hear the whole backlash. The people really were behind me, and that's really special," Johns said..
