The Vampire Diaries' mysterious Enzo is finally coming face-to-face with the woman who turned him into a vampire: Lily Salvatore.

Mega Buzz: Will Elena take the cure on The Vampire Diaries?

On Thursday's episode (8/7c, The CW), Enzo (Michael Malarkey), while accompanied by his new buddy Sarah (Tristan Mays), is shocked to see a modern-day Lily (Annie Wersching) and even more surprised when he learns that his last day as a human didn't go down exactly as he thought.

"In a flashback, he's dying of tuberculosis and he's trying to get on this passenger ship to New York when he meets Lily, who takes pity on him and ends up turning him into a vampire," Malarkey tells TVGuide.com. "But what he thought happened all those years ago proves to be different than the real story, which he finds out in [next week's episode]. That forces him to think about things in a different way and move forward and create this strange relationship with Lily and an unlikely bond ... because she sired him. In the coming season I think that will be explored in more detail, and he feels more connected to her than anybody else."

Mega Buzz: Who's hiding a major secret on The Vampire Diaries?

But that's not the only revelation of the hour. In our exclusive first look below, Enzo explains, or at least attempts to explain, Sarah's Salvatore family history. As for a buddy relationship between the two, Malarkey tells us, "It was almost going to be a Dangerous Liaisons-type thing but he develops a soft spot for her and realizes that all of his actions are putting her in jeopardy and endangering her life. It all comes to a head when she turns the table on him in this episode."

The Vampire Diaries airs on Thursdays at 8/7c on The CW.
