Elena Gilbert is finally getting out of Mystic Falls.
Vampire Diaries fans were devastated Monday to learn that star Nina Dobrev is leaving the show at the end of the season. While it's bad news for viewers, perhaps it's good news for Elena, if it means getting the heck out of dodge and living the normal life she once dreamed of. Unless, of course, she meets an untimely death.
The options for Elena's exit are endless, but here are six ways she could go.
1. She body-jumps.
All it takes is a little witch magic and a spell, and Elena could easily jump into someone else's body, which means another actress could play her. Not only has it actually happened to her before (RIP Katherine!), but the same solution was used when Claire Holt left The Originals. The next question is: Who to cast?
2. She takes the cure and decides to leaves town.
There's got to be a reason the cure just came back into play, right? Now that Bonnie has made becoming human again possible, perhaps Elena takes her up on her offer, becomes human and leaves town for normalcy. It also leaves the door open for a return in the future.
3. She takes the cure and is compelled to leave town.
After taking the cure, Damon sacrifices his own love for Elena, and instead compels her to leave town for good and forget everyone from her past.
4. She takes the cure and dies.
Remember when Katherine had a hard time handling a little cold? Elena can take the cure and get into a car accident, bringing the entire series to a tragic full circle.
5. She gets killed off.
It wouldn't be the first time the show killed off a series regular, and what better way to go out than with a bang, right? But with the Other Side officially gone, killing Elena could make her exit irrevocable — unless the series comes up with a new loophole to bring her back.
6. She gets a prestigious medical fellowship.
Elena is kicking ass in her pre-med classes, so maybe she goes all Grey's Anatomy and accepts an offer to a prestigious medical program. In her spare time, she develops a new cure for vampirism and learns how to finally cure cancer with vampire blood.
How do you think Elena will exit?
