Netflix gets into the original kids business on Christmas Eve with Turbo FAST, a new TV series from DreamWorks Animation. The series, based on the feature film Turbo, will launch exclusively in all Netflix territories on Dec. 24 at 12:01 a.m./PT, the streaming TV service announced Tuesday.

Turbo FAST's debut will include the first five episodes, with additional episodes premiering on a staggered basis throughout 2014. That's a departure from Netflix's usual practice of uploading an entire season of episodes from series like House of Cards and Orange is the New Black at once. "With new episodes on their way in the coming months, kids will have something to look forward to all year," says Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos

The new show will continue the story of Turbo, a garden snail endowed with super speed, and his stunt team pals — Whiplash, Burn, Smoove Move, White Shadow, Skidmark and Chet. Reid Scott (Veep) voices Turbo, while Ken Jeong (Community) plays Kim Ly.

The Turbo feature, released earlier this year, has grossed more than $280 million worldwide. "We've long said that Netflix is revolutionizing the television industry," says DreamWorks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg, CEO. "They have been fantastic partners whose vision has given our characters an amazing platform to be enjoyed by families around the world."
