Jessica Chastain will not star on the second season of HBO's  True Detectiveaccording to E! News.

Although Nerdist reported Tuesday night that the Oscar-nominated Zero Dark Thirty star had been offered the role, Chastain's rep told E! she would not be on the show. (Reps for both HBO and Chastain did not immediately respond to TVGuide.com's emails.)

True Detective's critically acclaimed first season starred Matthew McCounaghey and Woody Harrelson as reluctant partners and friends who work together to unravel a complex series of crimes over two decades. But since the series is an anthology, every season will feature a brand new cast and a story arc that exists completely independent from previous plots. Creator Nic Pizzolatto has hinted that he was looking for a female-fronted cast for Season 2.

Are you sad Chastain isn't going to star? Who would you like to see on the show?
