The story is inspired by an episode of This American Life
Toni Collette is stepping into the limited series game.
The actress has been cast in Netflix's Unbelievable, based on the true story of a teenager who was charged with lying about being raped. The series is based on the Marshall Project and ProPublica's Pulitzer Prize-winning article An Unbelievable Story of Rape, and the case was featured in an episode of the radio and podcast series This American Life.
Collette and The Walking Dead alum Merritt Wever will play detectives whose lives intersect as they pursue a possible serial rapist. Last Man Standing's Kaitlyn Dever also joins the cast.
The series was created by Susannah Grant (Erin Brockovich, Ever After: A Cinderella Story) who will serve as showrunner and write for the series. It will be executive-produced by Lisa Cholodenko (The Kids Are All Right) who will also direct the first three episodes.
The limited series will consist of eight episodes.
