Tom Petty is insisting that Republican Michele Bachmann stop using his song, "American Girl," at campaign rallies, according to Rolling Stone.
Bachmann announced her candidacy for the Republican nomination for the 2012 presidential election on Monday in Waterloo, Iowa where she took the stage while Petty's 1976 tune played in the background. Later that evening, Petty's team sent her campaign a cease and desist letter.

This isn't the first time the rocker has asked candidates to quit using his music. In 2000, his publisher asked George W. Bush to refrain from using "I Won't Back Down" because it implied Petty endorsed Bush.
