This Is Us Season 3 hasn't even started filming yet, but that didn't stop us from being curious about what's next for the Pearsons, particularly Kevin (Justin Hartley), who will continue on a journey of self-discovery after hitting rock bottom in Season 2.

Kevin's struggles with addiction were a big part of Season 2 until he finally admitted he needed help and checked into rehab. Once sober, Kevin had to do some painful introspection but it has turned him into a better man more capable of thriving in relationships.

"He's always been an honest guy to everyone else but I think he's finally being honest with himself and it's okay not to be perfect all of the time," Hartley told TV Guide at a recent FYC event in Los Angeles. "That affects all of his relationships. These relationships that he has with people he loves so much -- his family, his friends -- I think they are all evolving in a different way. He's kind of turning a page. You're getting reintroduced to this character that physically looks the same but his life is completely different. It's thrilling."

One of those relationships is with his deceased father, Jack (Milo Ventimiglia). A flash-forward in the Season 2 finale revealed that Kevin will strike up a relationship with Beth's cousin and the two will journey to Vietnam to learn more about Jack from a time period before he met Rebecca and long before the Big 3 were born.

"He's trying to get more information about his dad and the life that he lived over there," Hartley reveals. "I think that's going to make [Kevin] aware of who [Kevin] is, what he's made of, what he's built from. I think that's about it's about. It's a healing process, a therapy thing."

Of course, the trip might lead to another big This Is Us mystery.

"Then some things are going to happen and he's going to get some information that he didn't realize and it'll go from there," Hartley teased, but he wouldn't give us any more than that. We'll just have to wait for Season 3 to find out.

This Is Us returns Tuesdays this fall on NBC.
