Henry Cavill Goes Full Beast Mode in Netflix's The Witcher Comic-Con Trailer

Are you ready to watch Henry Cavill battle monsters and mythical things on Netflix? The Witcher took Hall H by storm at San Diego Comic-Con, showing off brand new footage for the fantasy series, includinga few clips showcasing the characters in their element.

The series is based on the best-selling book series by Andrzej Sapkowski, which was also adapted into widely popular video games, too. And, as we learned during the panel, the show will be based solely on the books, not the video game -- so those who have played it for hours on end will have new things to discover in the series, which now gives the characters some new breathing room.

The show also stars Anya Cholatra as Yennefer the sorceress and Freya Allan as Ciri, the princess of Cintra and the Lady of Time and Space. Joining the group on the stage also includes showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich.

Also if you're brand new to this world and wondering what a "Witcher" is, according to Cavill, "In short, it's a young boy who's been taken from the streets or left to fend for themselves an ultimately take in by this group called Witches. They are trained to almost inhuman levels of endurance. They're then subjected to chemical trials and become mutants. Most do not survive. After that, they are trained in the art of monster hunting, and they travel the world hunting monsters for [money]. That is their one and only purpose in life and they are often rejected because they're not supposed to have emotions. But ultimately, they're badass."

The other scenes Netflix showed in Hall H included an elaborate fight scene in a castle court, with Cavill's Geralt fighting off many of the knights himself. Also, Cavill did all his own fighting and stunts for the show. He thought it was important that he actually be in every single scene, taking the weight of the character. A second scene included Yennefer giving a eulogy for a baby before she buries him in the sand. And, lastly, a scene with Allan walking through the woods towards a glowing light in the distance, looking for someone named Dara before being captured by an all-female group of warriors.

The release date for the series is still a major TBD, but the panel teased that it's "coming soon."
