The Walking Dead Season 7 Gets a Premiere Date

The cliff-hanger gets resolved this October

The Walking Dead's fans will finally find out who Negan killed when Season 7 premieres on October 23 at 9 p.m. ET. The 16 episode season will be split in two, with the first eight episodes debuting this fall, followed by the second eight in February, 2017.

The return date was announced Friday during the AMC horror series' panel at San Diego Comic-Con, with cast, crew and thousands of fans in attendance.

The season premiere will resolve Season 6's cliffhanger, where new villain Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) killed an as-yet-unknown main character with a baseball bat.

The Season 6 premiere of The Walking Dead was a huge cultural event, kicking off with a screening for 15,000 fans at Madison Square Garden in New York attended by the cast and crew. We'll see if Season 7 can top that.

The Walking Dead returns Sunday, Oct. 23 at 9/8c on AMC.
