Less than two months after Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson officially announced his retirement from wrestling, the sports star turned actor is returning to the squared circle. TV Guide has confirmed that he'll appear on Friday Night Smackdown for the show's Fox debut, set to air Friday, Oct. 4 at 8/7c, which also coincides with the show's 20th anniversary. Rock also tweeted the announcement on Monday.

"FINALLY...I come back home to my @WWE universe. This FRIDAY NIGHT, I'll return for our debut of SMACKDOWN!LIVE on @FOXTV. There's no greater title than #thepeopleschamp. And there's no place like home," Johnson tweeted.

Johnson rose to popularity in the '90s during the WWE's Attitude Era, capturing the WWE Championship eight times and having WWE's second live wrestling show Smackdown named after one of his catchphrases in 1999. Johnson left wrestling behind in 2004 to become a movie star in major features like The Fast And Furiousfranchise, which produced a Hobbs & Shaw spin-off with his character, along with a deluge of other features. Since then, he's made sporadic appearances in the WWE, but this latest, which will see the brand reach a major milestone, promises to be something special.
