The game has been cut short: NBC has trimmed The Player's original episode order from 13 to 9 for its first season, Deadline reports.

The news comes after the drama saw its first ratings growth last week, rising to a 0.8 among adults 18-49 and 4.14 total viewers.

The Player stars Philip Winchester as Alex Kane, a private security specialist in Las Vegas who finds himself drawn into a high-stakes conspiracy involving the world's richest people gambling on crime. Wesley Snipes stars as "the pit boss" and Charity Wakefield as "the dealer."

The Player airs Thursdays at 10/9c on NBC. Are you upset by the news?
