Looks like this really is the end of the line

Despite robust "Save The OA" fan campaigns and an elaborate theory that the show's cancellation was all a ruse, it seems The OA has reached the end of the line. Variety reports that there will be no movie to wrap up the Netflix drama.

According to Variety, series co-creators Brit Marling (who also starred in the show) and Zal Batmanglij had discussions with Netflix about a movie that may have given fans some closure after that very meta cliffhanger. But given that The OA was originally outlined to run for five seasons, it was ultimately decided that a movie wouldn't have been enough to give the story a satisfying conclusion.

A move to another network is also out of the question because The OA was produced by Netflix. The show's stars have reportedly been released from their contracts.

Marling previously addressed fans on Instagram to thank them for their support, saying that "the story keeps going" inside them.

Netflix declined to comment when reached by TV Guide.
