The Last Ship is about to have its last season. The TNT drama has officially been canceled and will end after the upcoming fifth season, Deadline reports.

It had long been speculated that this was the end of the road for The Last Ship. In addition to star Travis Van Winkle referring to the Season 5 wrap as a "series wrap" in a now-deleted Instagram post, TNT president Kevin Reilly has also been cleaning house recently. With the already-announced end of The Librarians and Major Crimes, The Last Ship's cancellation officially closes the chapter on the old brand of TNT programming as Reilly pushes forward into edgier fare, such as Claws, The Alienist and the upcoming Snowpiercer adaptation.

The Last Ship premiered in 2014 and stars Eric Dane, Adam Baldwin and Charles Parnell as crew members aboard the only U.S. Navy ship that survived after a viral pandemic killed 80 percent of the global population. The series followed the crew's attempt to find a cure and save humanity.

The Last Ship's fifth and final season will debut on TNT this summer.
